Daily Backups and Disaster Recovery: Your Website’s Safety Net

Data loss can occur for many reasons: hardware failure, software bugs, human error, cyberattacks, or natural disasters. Without a proper backup and disaster recovery strategy, any of these events can result in catastrophic, permanent data loss.

The 3-2-1 Backup Rule

This time-tested strategy requires maintaining three copies of your data on two different storage types with one copy stored off-site. For websites, this means your live server data, a local backup on the same data center, and a remote backup in a geographically separate location.

What Should Be Backed Up

A complete website backup includes all website files (themes, plugins, media, custom code), the complete database with all content and configurations, email data and accounts, SSL certificates and security configurations, and server configuration files.

Recovery Time and Recovery Point Objectives

Recovery Time Objective (RTO) defines how quickly you need to restore operations. Recovery Point Objective (RPO) defines how much data loss is acceptable. For most business websites, an RTO of under four hours and an RPO of 24 hours is reasonable, which is achieved through daily backups with tested restore procedures.

At oosoft, daily automated backups are included with every hosting plan. We maintain multiple backup copies and provide one-click restore capabilities. Learn more at oosoft.co.in.
